This morning, Nintendo revealed new features that will be present in Mario Kart 8. The publisher touched mainly upon new racers, new items and the game’s online multiplayer mode. Read on for the details.
Online Multiplayer:
Mario Kart 8 will support up to 12 players online across four different multiplayer modes. Nintendo confirmed that players will be able to voice chat with one another in multiplayer lobbies before the start of a race, using the microphone on the Wii U GamePad. You’ll also be able to chat via text phrases.
Mario Kart TV:
Mario Kart 8 will allow you to watch highlight racing reels, rewind them, play them in slow motion, or upload them to Miiverse. Alternatively, if you have a Google account, you can also upload your reels to YouTube.
Players also can create public or private tournaments for which they can specify the day of the week, the time and the rules. As in previous games, you’ll be able to race against ghost data from friends and the top 10 worldwide racers. If you happen to beat a ghost from the game’s development team, you’ll get stamps to use on Miiverse.
New Racers:
Pink Gold Peach is a new heavyweight racer in Mario Kart 8, and is the female counterpart to Metal Mario. Meanwhile, Baby Rosalina is another newly playable racer. All in all, the game has 30 racers in total.
New Items:
Another pair of new items has been revealed as well—the Super Horn, which blows away all other items and racers (and Red and Blue Shells!); and the Crazy Eight, which operates similar to the swirling group of different items from Mario Kart 7.
Mario Kart 8 will be available in North America and Europe on May 30th.
