Electronic Arts and Maxis announced the next SimCity at their presentation at the Game Developers Conference this evening. The game, simply titled SimCity, will be released for PCs in 2013. Maxis joked that players will be able to create curvy roads now.

Another new feature in the new SimCity title will be that your cities will affect the cities of your friends. Players have the option to create “regions” together, and cities in the same region can affect one another. If you pollute your city, for instance, it will eventually affect the city of one of your friends. You can also cooperate by, say, sending fire trucks to a friend’s city in the event that there’s a fire.

Maxis say they aren’t trying to make most complex SimCity title. Instead, they’re aiming to make the “most playful and responsive” game. You can watch the game’s announcement trailer above.
