Another event has fallen victim to the COVID-19 pandemic. ReedPop President Lance Fensterman, Vice President Mike Armstrong, and NYCC Event Director Kristina Rogers announced that the New York Comic Con 2020 has been canceled both on Facebook and the official site. In its place, a NYCC 2020 Metaverse event will be held online October 8-11, 2020.
In the announcement, ReedPop confirmed it did discuss with Javits Center officials and local government officials to see if there could be some sort of phsyical event. Since that isn’t possible, it will be working with London’s MCM Comic Con on the NYCC 2020 Metaverse instead. It will also run for four days and give people a chance to go through panels and events online with YouTube through the new online portal. Announcements will still be made and exclusive products will still be offered.
While the New York Comic Con is primarily about comics and related merchandise, it has become the sort of event that covers gaming and anime in recent years as well. For example, Capcom had Remember Me at NYCC 2012 and Bandai Namco showed off My Hero One’s Justice 2 at NYCC 2019. Square Enix has also used the event to show off new Play Arts figures.
New York Comic Con 2020 will be held online October 8-11, 2020.
