Nintendo 3DS sales in Japan have crossed 15 million units, reports Famitsu.com. That figure accounts for both Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL.

While that is an impressive figure, Nintendo 3DS sales were down year-over-year in 2013, which is something Nintendo will need to address in the months to come.

This Thursday, Nintendo are expected to announce an initiative to put mini games and apps—which will effectively serve as demos—based on their titles on smartphones, to encourage more people to buy their hardware and games.
