Nvidia Portable Game Console, Project Shield, Announced At CES

Videogame hardware manufacturer, Nvidia, have announced their own portable console, tentatively named “Project Shield” at the Consumer Electronics Show, which kicked off in Las Vegas this week.

Project Shield looks kind of like an Xbox controller with a 5” screen attached to it, and it runs on the Android OS. It includes two analog sticks, has a Micro-SD card slot for memory, and an HDMI port for video output. Nvidia say the device is powered by their Tegra 4 processor and will provide 5-10 hours of gaming time on a single charge.

In addition to running its own games, Project Shield will also be able to stream games running on a PC, according to a separate report by the Wall Street Journal. Streaming will reportedly be enabled by a variant of Wi-Fi technology.

Nvidia have not yet announced a release date or price for Project Shield, or details regarding software support.
