Overwatch Kicks Off Year of the Dog Celebration, New Skins For Genji, Mercy, Zarya, And Much More

Overwatch is celebrating the Year of the Dog with a new seasonal event that brings in over 50 new seasonal items, including legendary skins for Genji, Mercy, Zarya, Widowmaker, and more.

In addition to the new loot to score for the Lunar New Year 2018 event, there’s a new Capture the Flag map called Ayhutthaya based in Thailand along with last year’s Festive Lijiang Tower map.

There’s also been some changes to Capture the Flag, which you can read about below:

Capture the Flag

In Capture the Flag, teams face off, attempting to secure the enemy flag while the opposing team does the same. Players can choose between two modes: Capture the Flag and the all-new Competitive Capture the Flag which offers a more competitive experience with placement matches, skill ratings tiers, leaderboards, competitive points, and more. We’re also adding a new Capture the Flag map, Ayutthaya.

Gameplay Changes

This year we’ve made some changes to Capture the Flag! Flag pickup is now instant, but flags cannot be picked up for five seconds after being dropped. Flags return after 4 seconds, and flag return is not interrupted by taking damage. Mobility and invulnerability skills drop the flag and, music plays while carrying the flag! Sudden death will now break ties at the end of a match. When time runs out, the round starts over, the flags are moved closer to the center of the map, and the first team to capture wins. All these changes will be applied to older Capture the Flag maps as well.

As always, you’ll get to purchase skins from last year’s event at a lower price. The new ones will be available through the limited Loot Boxes and at a full price of 3,000 credits for a Legendary. You can check out more from last year’s loot here.

Overwatch is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The Year of the Dog event will be available through March 5, 2018.
