Sony are dropping the price of the PlayStation 3 in Japan, the company announced today.

Sony say the 500 GB “Charcoal Black” PS3 will drop in price from 30,837 yen to 28,058 yen, but it won’t be the same model—instead, it’s a newer model, labeled CECH-4300C.

Meanwhile, the current Charcoal Black models—both with 500 GB (CECH-4200C) and 250 GB (CECH-4200B) hard drives—will be phased out this month, alongside the 250 GB “Classic White” model (CECH-4200BLW).

The price cut will go into effect on August 28th—the same day that Persona 4 Arena Ultimax launches in Japan.
