The Pokemon of the Year results are in for 2020, and the top ten characters have been named. Leading the pack this time is Greninja. In addition, the new Mythical Pokemon is Zarude.

Let’s start with Zarude, whose silhouette was teased in CoroCoro and unveiled on Valentine’s Day 2020. Zarude, known as Zaruudo in Japan, is a dark and grass type monkey with the Leaf Guard ability. (Leaf Guard is a returning ability that prevents status conditions from affecting a Pokemon if the “harsh sunlight” weather condition is currently in effect.) In addition to the movie debut, the Rogue Monkey Pokemon will also appear in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

As for the Pokemon of the Year Pokemon Day results, Greninja took the top prize. However, all of the top ten contenders were revealed in the announcement video. Lucario came in second, Mimikyu was third, Charizard was fourth, Umbreon was fifth, Sylveon was sixth, Garchomp was seventh, Rayquaza was eighth, Gardevoir was ninth, and Gengar was tenth.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are immediately available for the Nintendo Switch. No launch date has been revealed for Zarude yet. Pokemon the Movie: Coco will appear in Japan starting on July 10, 2020.
