This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

A new Max Raid event has come to Pokemon Sword and Shield. This time, it is ready to help people prepare for competitions. The new selection of characters are ones that are popular with people who put together teams for tournaments and play for keeps. So if you head over to Pokemon Sword or Shield raid dens until May 11, 2020, you’ll find characters who could give you a bit of a boost.

The official Japanese Twitter account for the game shared the dates and information on some of the characters you’ll see with greater frequency until mid-May 2020.

Should you approach any Pokemon Sword and Shield raid dens, be ready to face some foes who might be a bit hard to handle. The announcement confirms that Dragapult, Excadrill, Togekiss, Tyranitar, and Whimsicott will all be showing up to test you. This means their earlier forms, like Cottonee, Dreepy, Drilbur, Larvitar, and Togepi will be there too. Serebii is also reporting instances of Rotom showing up in both its Heat and Wash forms.

As usual, the Pokemon Sword and Shield raid dens’ residents tend to cycle out at a rather regular rate. Earlier in April 2020, baby Pokemon were nesting in them. Before that, there were more Gigantamax Pokemon, like Gigantamax Charizard, Copperajah, and Duraludon, showing up.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are available for the Nintendo Switch.
