Sega revealed at SXSW that Project Sonic 2017 is now called Sonic Forces, and it’ll release this holiday season. Here’s a look at its first footage as well as other additional details.

The above footage, courtesy NintendoEverything, gives us a first look at Sonic Forces, the latest by Sonic Team, headed by Takashi Iizuka, who calls it an “evolution of Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations. Of course it’ll have new concepts along with three unique gameplay styles with modern and classic being two of them and the third has yet to be revealed.

The new engine that is being used to make the game is called “Hedgehog Engine 2,” which is basically an evolved version of the old engine made into something new. Sega is using a lot of visual elements from past Sonic games and it’ll have global illumination, physical rendering, and other new enhancements and mechanics.

Tomoya Ohtani will be working on its music. You can check out its main theme (instrumental version) in the above video.

The producer is Shun Nakamura, who has been involved in the series as a game designer for Sonic Team since Sonic R. In addition to Sonic games, he’s also worked on ChuChu Rocket! Samba de Amigo, and Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure.

Sonic Forces is expected to release this holiday season for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC.
