Revelations Is The Closest Players Will Get To Classic Resident Evil

Following the release of Resident Evil: Revelations, fans asked on Capcom’s forums whether the company had plans for more classic-style games in the vein of Revelations, either as retail titles or lower-budget downloadable games. Senior Vice-President, Christian Svensson, addressed their queries.

“This is probably a better question for [producers] Kawata or Kobayashi, however to throw in my $0.02, Revelations (or perhaps future titles that resemble Revs) is probably the closest RE classic purists are going to get,” Svensson replied. He added: “We won’t forget you guys though… but I can’t tell you how or why yet. :)”

On the subject of low-budget downloadable games, however, Svensson feels that that route may not necessarily be the best for Resident Evil.

“I don’t think the RE fanbase would accept the quality/scope of a ‘low budget’ title,” he shared. “We’d get hammered for hamstringing the team due to ‘a lower development budget’. Most consumers don’t care about what a game costs a developer to create. They only care about the experience it gives them.”

Finally, in a separate forum thread, a user asked about the possibility of seeing Resident Evil 6 on Wii U. Svensson’s reply to this was: “We’ve made no announcements to this end at this point. I can’t say more than that right now.”

Food for thought:

It is possible that Svensson’s tease regarding future titles that fans of the Revelations-style would like is a reference to Resident Evil 6 itself. After all, Capcom have said that they hope to address both the action and horror aspects of the series with that game.
