A Shenmue III English voice acting update has been posted on the official website for the game, confirming that the recording is between 70 and 80% comlete. This comes after Corey Marshall, the voice of Ryo Hazuki, revealed in December 2018 that he was in the studio recording dialogue for the game.
The status update was accompanied by a brief video clip showing the team in the studio with some of the actors recording, as well as brief bios for Marshall and Brianna Knickerbocker, who is playing Shenhua Ling. Knickerbocker is new to the cast, as Shenhua was played by Debora Rabbai in Shenmue and Akasha Scholen in Shenmue II.
Hey! It’s Corey Marshall! Without Corey, our English speaking Ryo just would not come to life. Corey was set to play Ryo when the project started back in 2015. It did take a quite a while to get into the studio and start recording the English voices, but Corey was full on ready to give a great performance, so expect the best!
Playing our heroine in Shenmue III is Brianna Knickerbocker! Yu-san selected from a number of candidates through audio auditions only, and Brianna stunned with her great performance reel. Finally meeting at the studio, she stunned us again with her beauty. Brianna has acted in a dizzying array of games and animated features, so we will all be looking forward to her portrayal of Shenhua!
Here are the recording studio footage and pictures, which also feature creator Yu Suzuki and Sound Director Takayuki Nakamura.
Shenmue III will come to the PlayStation 4 and PC on August 27, 2019. As a reminder, the backer survey closed on January 6, 2019.
