Should You Pull on the Imbibitor Lunae Banner in Honkai: Star Rail? Answered

The first half of Version 1.3 and the Ephocal Spectrum banner have been out for a few days now in Honkai: Star Rail and it’s been more than enough time for people to get a feel for Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae, some might still be on the fence as to whether or not they should pull on his banner. While Imbibitor Lunae is not a must-pull due simply to the fact that he is a DPS, he certainly makes life a lot easier. The problem is that with the exception of March and potentially Yukong, his banner is full of free characters.

Should someone pull on the Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae Honkai: Star Rail banner?

The characters on pick-up in Ephocal Spectrum in Honkai: Star Rail are Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae, Yukong, Asta, and March 7th. The 4-stars on this banner are actually pretty great supports for Imbibitor Lunae. So you’ll likely be able to amass yourself a fairly good team just with the banner options. As for each individual character, here are some quick rundowns on their usefulness, as well as how I would rate them out of 5.

  • Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae (5/5)
As of Version 1.3, Imbibitor Lunae is probably the best attacker in the game. His damage output is pretty nuts, even without Eidolons. At E2, he’s a beast. I’m not going to sit here and say that you MUST pull his E2. I DO recommend it if you are ABLE to get it. It moves forward his turn after his Ultimate, which gives him stacks (that means free uses of his Skill).
  • Yukong (3/5)
You can get Yukong for free via Forgotten Hall, so pulling on this banner would get her some Eidolons. Yukong’s Eidolons mostly focus on improving her own performance as an attacker with the exception of her E1 and E6. They don’t completely change her kit or make her busted as a support. While she is a good character, she can be difficult to use due to the amount of speed tuning you will have to do.
  • Asta (3/5)
Asta is also a free character so pulling on Imbibitor Lunae’s banner will net you her Eidolons. Asta’s E4 (increases her Energy Regeneration when she has stacks) is the only one that directly improves her Ultimate, which would be Asta’s main usage. She, like Yukong, can work as a slightly more offensive support (which her Eidolons would help her with) as opposed to someone like Bronya or Tingyun.
  • March 7th (5/5)
We all know March is free through the story, and so pulling on this banner will get March her Eidolons. All of March’s Eidolons are actually amazing, greatly enhancing her role as a shielder and as someone who can Freeze the opponent. She’s also available via the store every once in a while so you don’t necessarily have to pull on this banner to get her.

The three 4-stars on this banner are all fairly good. March 7th in particular is a strong draw. However, it’s not such a good banner that you have to pull on it for the 4-stars. If you pull on it, you basically have to pull until you get Imbibitor Lunae.

So let’s talk about him. Imbibitor Lunae is, as I mentioned earlier, a very powerful attacker. He is very needy though, in the sense that you can’t just put him in any team and call it a day. His heavy Skill Point usage means that you might not want to run him with someone like Bronya, who ideally uses her Skill every single turn. Because Honkai: Star Rail isn’t a multiplayer game (which means there’s no meta), there’s also very little need to get Imbibitor Lunae if you’re DPS is already good enough.

I said the same thing for Kafka, but the only “must pull” in Honkai: Star Rail is either a really good Preservation or a really good Abundance. This is because the game makes it so that you basically have to bring a character from either Path. Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae may be cracked. His damage potential may be wild. He can make your life easier by defeating enemies faster. But there are still limits to how much use you can get out of a DPS. In that sense, if you’re not exactly into him and you’re just suffering from FOMO, I can assure you now as someone with his E6 that my Star Rail life did not significantly change outside of clearing content faster.

Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on mobile devices and Windows PC. The Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae Ephocal Dream banner in Honkai: Star Rail will end on September 20, 2023.
