Yesterday, Lab Zero Games’ Skullgirls fundraiser hit the $600,000 mark, which means that the game is now getting three new characters. Two characters—Squigly and Big Band—are currently in development, and the third is in the process of being voted upon by fans that contributed to the fundraiser.

Siliconera got in touch with Lab Zero CEO Peter Bartholow to ask about when we can expect to start seeing the new characters released. The first character, Bartholow shared with us, will hopefully be released in mid-July.

“We expect Squigly to be released alongside the PC version of the game, most likely in mid-July,” Bartholow replied to our query. “Big Band and the Mysterious Character should appear 3-4 months apart from there.”

Work on the PC version of Skullgirls has already begun, Bartholow says. The game is being developed in-house by Lab Zero and will be published by Marvelous AQL. Lab Zero are aiming to kick the beta off in mid-June, with a full release to follow in mid-July.

“And we intend to let players beta test the new characters on [PC] first before release, too,” Bartholow added. He explained: “We can do betas on the Steam version pretty easily without patch submissions, etc. so it makes it a great platform to let our fans playtest the new characters and provide balance feedback.”
