Sky: Children of Light Switch Port Delayed by the Pandemic

COVID-19 pandemic-related delays hit another game. This time, it’s a title from thatgamecompany. The Sky: Children of Light Switch port won’t arrive in 2020 as planned. Instead, the shift to working from home pushed the game into 2021.

For those who haven’t heard of it or played it on other devices, Sky: Children of Light is an exploration game. People create and avatar, then explore and glide through different worlds. (The ambiance is reminiscent of the developer’s previous game, Journey, at times.) It first launched on Apple iOS devices, before ports were announced.

Here’s thatgamecompany’s statement from the official site announcing the delay.

Since March, our studio has taken safe measures to ensure all of our team members stay healthy–emotionally, physically, and free from COVID. Over the past five months, our staff has worked non-stop from home and have tried to be there for their loved ones during this difficult time as well. Through the pandemic, we’ve done our best to release Sky on Android, manage a live game, and launch two new adventure seasons too.

As a small indie studio working remotely, it has been incredibly challenging to pull off so many releases back to back from home.

The good news is that we’re close to being in the final stretch to deliver Sky to Nintendo Switch players. Unfortunately, the bad news is that due to the remote slowdown of work during COVID and our utmost priority to protect our team’s health, we’ve had to push back Sky’s release on Nintendo Switch by a few months into 2021. In the meantime, we have also decided to hire more staff to help us with this console release as well.

We apologize if we’ve disappointed any fans, as we work remotely to release Sky for Nintendo Switch a few months later than expected.

The Sky: Children of Light Switch port will arrive in 2021. It is immediately available for free on Android and Apple iOS devices. In fact, it celebrated its first birthday in July 2020.
