Though Arts Vision, his agency, announced the news on December 8, 2025, he passed away on November 29, 2025. His family held a private service and funeral. He went on break in September 2025 for health reasons, and he had planned on returning to voice acting after recovery. His illness was not reported, nor was his cause of death.

Nishimura started voice acting in 1974 and appeared in many popular properties. Prominent anime roles include Anzai in Slam Dunk, the Narrator and George in Yu Yu Hakusho, and Jamitov Hymem in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. His major video game roles include Akuma and M. Bison in the Street Fighter games (as well as spinoff works like Namco x Capcom), Mayvin in Tales of Zestiria, and the Arbiter of Time in Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Other Japanese voice actors, such as Junichi Suwabe (Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen), have made posts on social media to mourn Nishimura’s passing. Nishimura is not the only voice actor who died this year. In March 2025, Yoko Kawanami passed away at the age of 67 due to peritoneal metastasis. She was well known for her role as Coconna Vartla in Armored Trooper Votoms.

Tomomichi Nishimura passed away in late November 2025.
