Some Assassin’s Creed PS4 Games Won’t Work on the PS5 (Update)

Some Assassin’s Creed PS4 games won’t be making the jump to the PS5. While Sony said it tested hundreds of games to ensure backwards compatibility and even shared a list of PS4 only games with only 10 games on it, it seems it missed some big names. Ubisoft Connect confirmed four Assassin’s Creed games and a few other titles won’t make the jump to Sony’s new system, even though it noted all Xbox One games will be backward compatible with the Xbox Series X. Update: Ubisoft has pulled the list and told Kotaku it might not be accurate.

Here is the list of Ubisoft PS4 games that won’t work on a PS5.

  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicles China
  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicles India
  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicles Russia
  • Assassin’s Creed Syndicate
  • Risk
  • Space Junkies
  • Star Trek: Bridge Crew
  • Werewolves Within

Also, the Assassin’s Creed Chronicles Trilogy Pack, which bundles China, India, and Russia together, will also not work on the PS5.

The four incompatible Assassin’s Creed PS4 games were all released between 2015 and 2016. Risk came out in 2015, Werewolves Within in 2016, and Star Trek: Bridge Crew in 2017. Space Junkies is the most recent game on the list, as it came out in March 2019.

Ubisoft did note that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is compatible, guarantees people a free PS5 upgrade if they get the PS4 version, and is considered a full cross-progression copy that will let you use a save file from any other version of the game with it.
