Sega has announced more DLC for Sonic Forces. This time, it is a free prequel that will go to everyone who purchases the game. Episode Shadow can be downloaded on November 7, 2017, the day the game launches. There will also be a Shadow the Hedgehog costume included for Hero Characters with Digital Bonus Edition pre-orders.

In Sonic Forces’ Episode Shadow, players get to go through three stages as Shadow. We get to find out what happened to Team Dark, which was made up of Shadow, Rouge, and E-123 Omega, and learn more about Infinite. You can also play as Shadow in 10 Modern Sonic Stages after beating them.

About one minute of Episode Shadow Gameplay footage from the PC version of Sonic Forces has been shared online, to give people an idea of what to expect from his levels.
