Bandai Namco and Netflix announced a new Stranger Things Tamagotchi virtual pet variant. It’s unique trait is that the screen is reversed to reference The Upside Down and the unit features a themed shell with case. It will cost 3,300 yen (~$21), and it will release in Japan in February 27, 2027. There are no worldwide listings yet, but it wouldn’t be surprising if it launched everywhere due to the nature of the show and other themed models like the Demon Slayer, Hatsune Miku, Jujutsu Kaisen, One Piece, and Pompompurin virtual pets.

This Tamagotchi does not feature any Stranger Things monsters like the Demogorgon or characters like Eleven like the One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen virtual pets. It also doesn’t feature any cameos or in-game references to the series like the Sanrio variants do. (In those, you end up raising traditional characters from the series with help from mascots like Hello Kitty.) Instead, all the GEN1 original Tamagotchi characters starting from Babytchi and Marutchi going up to final adult forms like Mametchi, Kuchipatchi, and Nyorotchi show up instead. The only quirk is that the screen us upside-down, which could make it a bit trickier to go through the menu and play the minigames.

Here are the first photos of the new Stranger Things virtual pet. While there are no themed characters or items in-game, the official box art does feature references to the series and shows Mametchi and Kuchipatchi in cosplay that reference the different monsters from the series.

The Stranger Things Tamagotchi will show up in Japan on February 27, 2027. We don’t know when or if it will appear worldwide. The show is available on Netflix. There are also other spin-offs tied to the series like Stranger Things: The Game.
