Super Mario eShop Theme Celebrates the Series’ 35th Anniversary

This article is over 3 years old and may contain outdated information

The whole Super Mario 35th Anniversary celebration doesn’t just apply to games. It applies to storefronts too. There’s now a Super Mario eShop theme on the Nintendo Switch celebrating the series. If you visit the storefront in any region while using the system, you’ll see the new look. [Thanks, Nintendo Everything!]

This shift in appearance manifests in multiple ways. When the eShop loads up, the red background behind the menu has various Super Mario logos and iconography. When you go to a new page or search, a running Mario will appear while it is loading up. Unfortunately, since there’s no eShop music at all, there’s no new background music.

Even Super Mario games are highlighted. The Discover/Featured section has both Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury highlighted in every region. Japan’s eShop takes it a step further by having the two new announcements appear alongside Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Arcade Archives Vs. Super Mario Bros., Arcade Archives Mario Bros, and the Super Famicom Nintendo Switch Online app.

Nintendo Everything captured a video of the Super Mario theme’s appearance. It lets you see the running Mario that appears whenever a page is loading up.

You can see the Super Mario eShop theme applied in the storefront now. Nintendo hasn’t mentioned how long this will be in effect.
