Each character has a specific Sword skill that they can use, and you can also use Ability Cards to power them up. Ability Cards can strengthen a character’s existing advantages, as well as cover up any weaknesses they have. There will also be a Battle Royal mode. In Battle Royal mode, you play against three other people and compete to see who can defeat the most players.

Since over a million people pre-registered for the game, players will be able to unlock the SSR [Will to Fight] Asuna card. You can get it when you log into the game, as well as the Evolution Crystals and Unlocking Materials. You can also get The Flash’s Will, which is an SR Ability Card. This is something that you can use on your Asuna. If another character is more your fancy, you can use your pre-registration bonus Scout Tickets to try for another SSR.

Earlier in 2022, Bandai Namco showed off a gameplay video for Sword Art Online Variant Showdown. In it, you can see how you can switch between characters on the fly in order to chain together combos. This video showed off the PvE mode.
