Side-scrolling strategy game, Swords & Soldiers, is headed to the Nintendo 3DS.

Originally developed and released for WiiWare by Ronimo Games, Swords & Soldiers is a game where three factions—the Aztecs, Vikings and Imperial Chinese—are at war. Players use gold to create units, which begin marching toward the enemy base once they’re created, casting spells along the way. Figuring out which units to build and send out is part of the game’s strategy.

Following its WiiWare release, Swords & Soldiers was later made available for other platforms like the PC, PlayStation 3 and iPhone. Now, it’s on its way to the 3DS as a download title on the Nintendo eShop, courtesy of Hong Kong-based developer, Circle Entertainment, who have undertaken the responsibility of bringing the game to 3DS.

“We reached out to Ronimo a few months ago,” Circle Entertainment CEO, Chris Chau, shared with Siliconera in an interview. “They’re very nice and they’re happy to do a 3DS version of Swords & Soldiers. Circle always wants to take on new projects in different genres, so Swords & Soldiers 3D can be a first step [to making more 3DS titles].”

You may not have heard of Circle Entertainment before, but they have quite the presence on Nintendo’s DSiWare service, where they’ve released a significant number of games and continue to do so even today. Their latest title, Castle Conquerer – Heroes 2, was released just last week, and Circle have recently begun dipping their toes into developing for the Nintendo eShop as well.

“We’re still discussing with Ronimo the possibility of offering free DLC and a demo [for Swords & Soldiers 3D] to players,” Chau tells us. “I believe people will be able to see this title in a few months—perhaps next Spring.”
