Exclusive to the third generation of Monster Hunter games is Jhen Moran, a monster which debuted in Monster Hunter Tri’s online mode. In Portable 3rd, he’s back again in a special quest.

The fight against Jhen Moran in Portable 3rd is the one Capcom showed off a clip of in the latest trailer for the game, with a ship sailing through a sea of sand alongside him. This is how the initial battle takes place.

While you’re navigating your ship beside Jhen Moran, you can attack either with the ship’s range of Ballistas and cannons, or with your own weapons. Naturally, your Felyne partners  can back you up here as well.

The interesting part is, it’s also possible for a player to jump onto Jhen Moran’s back to mine for ore and scales, while your ship is sailing alongside him.
