Speaking to the PlayStation blog at the EVO 2011 tournament, Tekken series director, Katsuhiro Harada, discussed the visual upgrades to Tekken Tag Tournament HD in the Tekken Hybrid package for PlayStation 3.
“We wanted to keep the feeling of the game itself from the PS2, so we haven’t changed a lot there,” Harada revealed. “The graphics aren’t just upscaled or anything, we actually re-created a lot of the in-game textures. A lot of work went into refining the graphics. Another reason we’re doing it now is because a lot of people in Europe played the PAL version, which was a slower version of the game. Now they’ll be able to get the full experience here. There are also younger players out there who never played it, and I think it will appeal to them.”
Harada also touched upon Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Prologue, which will also be included as part of the Tekken Hybrid package. Harada says that, for Prologue, the development team is focusing on characters present in the Tekken: Blood Vengeance movie, as they’d like those characters to have the spotlight. So far, only Devil and Ling Xiaoyu have been confirmed as playable characters, and retain their costumes from the movie.
Like Tekken: Blood Vengeance, Harada says, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Prologue will have support for stereoscopic 3D visuals.
