We recently saw how games sold in the last week of 2018, and we now have a look at the sales data from Japanese sales tracker Media Create for the first week of 2019 that covers sales from December 31, 2018 through January 6, 2019.

 

Japan didn’t get any new releases since it was in the middle of the holiday, but at #1 we have Super Smash Bros. Ultimate retain its position with 258,974 units sold. It is now up to 2,615,160 units sold via retail in Japan.

 

Super Mario Party was #2 again with a solid 95,102 units sold for Switch. Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! & Let’s Go, Eevee! charted #3 with 68,308 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe followed at #4 with 55,758 units sold. The Nintendo Switch version of Dragon Quest Builders 2 kept its #5 spot with 47,176 units sold while the PS4 version dropped to #8 with 38,969 units sold.

 

In hardware sales, the PlayStation 4 had a big boost with 87,669 units sold plus an additional 29,513 units of PS4 Pros to combine for 117,182 units between the two. The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console of the week with a whopping 199,982 units sold to make up about 57.5% of the week’s hardware. Going by Media Create’s figures, the Nintendo Switch has passed the 7 million milestone, as it currently sits at 7,046,766 units sold in Japan since its launch in March 3, 2017.
