tokyo revengers hiatus

Tokyo Revengers is going on an indefinite hiatus. Parties involved with Ken Wakui have been infected with COVID-19, according to a report. While specific people weren’t named, the report does say that it would be difficult to continue work on the manga as a result of this. This news comes at a time when Tokyo Revengers is in the middle of its final arc. [Thanks, ryokutya2089!]

This is not the first time that Tokyo Revengers needed some sort of delay due to the pandemic. In 2020, Warner Bros. Japan announced that it could not work on the Tokyo Revengers live-action movie due to the coronavirus. The movie eventually came out on July 10, 2021. It was Japan’s highest-grossing live action film of 2021, earning over 4.38 billion yen ($3.67 million).

Tokyo Revengers follows the story of Takemichi Hanagaki, who goes back in time to prevent the deaths of his ex-girlfriend and her brother. In trying to fix the past, Takemichi inadvertently causes multiple time paradoxes to happen in the present. Tokyo Revengers is widely popular, outselling Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia. The Japanese government even used Tokyo Revengers in an ad campaign to raise awareness about Japan’s new age of majority laws.

Tokyo Revengers will go on hiatus from Weekly Shonen Magazine 18. There is no news as to when it will return.
