Under The Hood Of Junpei’s Baseball Cap

Recommended Videos

You’ll recall when Atlus USA first announced their pre-order bonus cap for Persona 3 Portable, I was a little taken aback as to why they didn’t go with something that catered a little more toward both sexes, given that P3P’s big selling point is the new female protagonist. After all, it only seemed appropriate that their first foray into catering to a wider demographic should be marked in some significant way.

While I still feel they could have afforded to be a little more creative with their final choice — who knows what else was suggested during the brainstorming sessions — they cleverly sent us one of the things, predicting accurately, that we’d guilt ourselves into writing about it.

And so, here we are, trying to take you under the hood of Junpei Iori’s key to popularity.

The first thing you’ll note when you take the cap out of its plastic wrapping is that it doesn’t feel flimsy in the least. It’s made of 100% cotton, and the thickness and weight are just right to make it sturdy enough without feeling too heavy on top of your head. It’s also got an easily adjustable strap at the back that allows you to find just the right fit for your head without having to bother with those annoying holes that some caps have.

I’m no fashion expert, but I was impressed by the way the strap was built in general. It’s a smart design that lets you loosen or tighten the cap while you’re wearing it so you can gauge how comfortable it feels around your head. (insert “in realtime” joke) It’s also got a smart locking mechanism that makes it less easy for the cap to be blown off your head by, say, a strong gust of wind.

On the inner rim, you have a nice thick sweat band, which a friend tells me is one of the more important features you’ll want to look for in a cap. The sweat band essentially keeps your sweat from soaking into the fabric and showing up on the outside.

Aside from a single copyright tag on the inner rim, there’s no mention of the game anywhere on the outside. It feels like an authentic cap, and it’s nice that Atlus didn’t skimp on quality. Therefore, I hereby give this cap 4.5 / 5 frosts.1

1. I’ll fully admit to nicking off half a frost just so I’d have an excuse to fiddle about in Photoshop.
