Aquaplus announced that it will develop an offline story archive for Utawarerumono: Lost Frag. This will act as a means of preservation for the mobile game that will close this month. More details on the project will appear on the official website and social media accounts as Aquaplus works on the project. As such, it might not be fully complete by the time the app shutters on April 23, 2026.
The story archive for Utwarerumono: Lost Frag will let players rewatch the numerous stories that appeared in the game. Aquaplus is considering making the main and event stories fully-voiced, as well as adding new ones. This is not set in stone yet, though, so we will have to wait for confirmation from Aquaplus regarding this. Utawarerumono: Lost Frag came out in 2019 as a Japan-only mobile spin-off of the Utawarerumono series. Though the game features an original story, returning characters from the trilogy appear in it as well.
The preservation of live-service games that go offline is an ongoing effort and source of discourse among fans. Some companies choose to keep an offline archive after end of service so players can still relive the story or look at their collection, such as what Bandai Namco did with Tales of the Rays. Others, like Square Enix with NieR Reincarnation, choose not to.
As of late, we’ve seen multiple Utawarerumono games appear worldwide. The first game appeared as Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen on the PS4, Vita, and PC. The second and third pair are Mask of Deception and Mask of Truth, and those showed up on the PS4, Vita, and PC everywhere too. The Utawarerumono Zan Musou-style beat’em ups also appeared outside Japan.
Utawarerumono: Lost Frag is available in Japan on mobile devices, and the offline version is in the works. The game will end service on April 23, 2026.
