Development of Heavy Rain developer Quantic Dreams’ next game is going well, says founder, David Cage. Titled Beyond: Two Souls, the studio’s next game is a supernatural adventure in development for the PlayStation 3, announced earlier in the year.
“We’re advancing—we’re now a few weeks off the alpha version,” Cage shares with the PlayStation blog. “It’s always a very critical moment in the development of a game since it’s the first time all the game data is assembled in a complete version. This first version is often not very playable, but it’s the first time you can see the “complete” game as a whole.”
Cage goes on to mention that Beyond: Two Souls is meant to be a very different game from Heavy Rain, which was more of a psychological thriller. The goal with Beyond, he says, is to show players that Quantic Dream “go much further” with the concept of Heavy Rain.
“Beyond is, of course, about death,” he says. “But it is also about more positive things, like growth, change and learning to accept ourselves as we are. With Beyond, I really wanted to create a trip—something epic, emotional, and strong that the player will remember long after the end of the game.”
Cage also asks that players go into Beyond with as little knowledge of the game as possible, adding that he wishes Quantic Dream could show nothing of the game in terms of trailers prior to release.
“For people who trust us and who loved Heavy Rain—we will surprise you, we will give you something you expect without even knowing that you were expecting it” Cage assures. “I think it will be a real experience. We believe in it and we’re working hard for it.”
