What Are the Best Moonstone Island Spirits?

Moonstone Island contains many Spirits for you to tame and utilise in battle, and it can be difficult to know which ones are best for each situation. Many of the game’s Spirits can seem similar, due to the random nature of stats and the cards they carry. However, each one has a passive ability that makes them stand out.

Some of these Spirits are best in battle, where they can apply extra buffs or debuffs or do extra damage. Others excel best outside of battle, assisting you with the cozier aspects of Moonstone Island.

Which Spirits are best for battle in Moonstone Island?

Early on in Moonstone Island, one of the best Spirit to tame is Dusty. This Studio Ghibli-inspired soot sprite has Lil Guy Energy, which effectively allows you to retry attacks that fail to land. Whenever an attack is blocked by an enemy’s high armor, this passive effect adds 1 Energy to the count, allowing you to try a different move. This becomes less effective as you progress through the game, but at the start it’s very useful.

For sheer usefulness in battle however, Marsha and Flambit are excellent damage dealers you’ll want to get trained up. Marsha has an ability called Benevolent Bane, which helps spread poison across an entire enemy squad. If Marsha applies Poison to one enemy, each additional enemy gains 1 extra poison as well. Flambit is especially aggressive with the Hot in Here ability, as having this fireball in your party causes 1 Burn to be applied to every enemy at the start of each turn. (Snaplant is also useful here, as they can do the same with Poison, but they are much harder to find outside of the Fall Temple.)

Other useful Spirits in battle include Cumulo, whose Breaker ability kicks off each battle by knocking a point off each enemy’s Armor stat, allowing you to make them Dizzy faster. Bonguin can be useful as well, as their Frost Layer ability keeps their own Armor high. It’ll raise by 1 point each turn, making it harder to turn them Dizzy.

Which Spirits are best for daily life in Moonstone Island?

Other Spirits are best used in Moonstone Island’s daily life activities. If you’re looking to get sociable and maybe even spark some romance, the cute fox Spirit Fluffox is one you want tagging along. Its Friendly Fluff ability causes every Talk action to gain an additional 10% chance of success.

Another useful Earth Spirit is Longlog. When they’re following you, it causes their Log Jog ability to trigger, which causes slower Stamina reduction. This is especially helpful early in the game when it’s much easier to burn through Stamina and become exhausted.

Finally, anyone who wants to go fishing should make sure to grab Snorcko. This snorkel-wearing lizard has the Snorkle Scout ability, which causes fish to bite faster. It’s no wonder it’s the Spirit of choice for local fisherman Tobin.

Moonstone Island is available now for PCs. A Switch version is in development.
