In Village in the Shade, huge enemies might chase you if you venture out into town past 11pm, but it is possible to place nandina plant seedlings around Kagatsu Village and the surrounding areas to give you a place where you can safely hide and wait for evil to pass by. However, while you are shown where the first one goes and plant it as part of a cutscene, you’re left to keep an eye out for the spots for others on your own. Here are some other places where you can put nandina seedlings around town.

After a certain point in Spring in your first year in Village in the Shade, you’ll happen upon Konno in town for a nandina plant seedling tutorial that shows you how to spot a place to put one and eventually hide. During this segment, you’ll be shown sowing the seed. Once done, you can leave it and it will eventually mature into a full hiding bush with red flowers. After this point, the Tagami General Store will sell one per day, with the cost per seedling going up each time. (So it will start at 1,000 yen, but by the time I took that screenshot it got up to 3,900 for one.)
Here’s how that initial tutorial spot looks, to help you spot the kind of conspicuous ground in or outside of town.
As for the actual locations I’ve found in Kagatsu for nandina plant seedlings, here are some of the more notable ones I found and what they’ll look like once fully grown bushes are available alongside the roads and paths. This way, you know ahead of time where you’ll be able to plant seeds or hide if you’re running from the larger foes at night. Note that you can only use them as a hiding spot when they are fully grown and you can see the red flowers. Note that in the case of the spot in the cemetery, I had been saving for another item and couldn’t afford the seedling yet, so I only showed my character standing next to the spot where it should go in the screenshot.
Note that you will eventually find more spaces out and about for these bushes, and they will always be off of your homestead and farmland and in either the wilderness or town.
