Where’s Darston for Mountainous Mystery in LOZ Echoes of Wisdom

“Mountainous Mystery” is a The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom quest that involves finding out where Darston is, then taking on a mini dungeon and bonus boss for a pretty great reward. While it is a little challenging, the hardest part might be determining Darston’s exact location to start it.

Where do I find Darston in “Mountainous Mystery” during The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom?

So this quest is available in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom immediately after finishing the Eldin Volcano rift. Head back to Goron Town. When talking with the Gorons around there, one will explain Darston is immediately missing and tasks you with finding him to complete “Mountainous Mystery.” This is actually going to send you into what is basically a mini dungeon with bonus boss fight building on the Seismic Talus one

The hint suggests Darston is near the tip of the Eldin Volcano. He’s not. He’s actually directly east of it in a cave. Remember the Lizalfos cave you visited earlier while taking on the rift in this area? There’s a waypoint right to the west of it. Teleport to either that one or the one near the tip of Eldin Volcano, then use echoes to make your way to the cave I highlighted on the map below.

Once you get inside, you can talk to Darston and learn a rumor about a Fire Giant that’s plagued the areas for hundreds of years. The sign of it is tied to noises from the cave, which Darston is heading. Head inside. This is a fairly typical platforming experience, and you’ll need to use bind to move rocks around to ride lava plumes and platform your way through the area.

The Fire Giant has the same attack patterns as the Seismic Talus. The only difference is, it is on fire. I recommend using an Ice Keese or Ice Wizzrobe to attack the highlighted parts that are glowing when the giant is in full-form. (Peahat catches on fire too quickly.) Every time enough damage is done to the weak part, the giant becomes stunned. Most of its parts disappear, and you can run up and attack the glowing ball left behind in Swordfighter Form.

I’d definitely say defeating this bonus boss for Darston in “Mountainous Mystery” is a quest in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom worth doing. The rewards are pretty good. You get a Heart Piece immediately after defeating the enemy. Once you get back to Darston through the new shortcut, you get the Goron’s Bracelet accessory. It is one of the best ones, since it increases Zelda’s carry speed when carrying items.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
