Asking who the most valuable characters in a Fire Emblem game is weird and difficult to judge. The randomized stat gains upon leveling up and decisions made when playing regarding training and classes means the answer isn’t definitive. A warrior could be fantastic for one person and trash for another. Their viability may also vary based on roles during runs. I will say that while “best” characters are difficult to definitively name for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, the game does feature a number of characters with the potential to be universally useful as a result of their inherent abilities or unique skills.

First, we’re going to go with the obvious. The main characters are all critical units and extremely powerful individuals who are useful not only in their Part 1 campaigns during Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, but are also the best folks to be taking into Part 2 and 3. These are Cai, Dietrich, Eshmel, Leda, and Theodora. All of them are going to be able to use Blaze Arts in addition to Combat Arts, they tend to possess unique weapons as a result of their stories or gods giving them access to them, and they might even be set up for unique classes. (I’m looking at you, Dancer Leda!) Intelligent Systems sets them up to be capital-I Important from the very start.

From there, it gets a bit trickier! All of the leaders of the additional factions are pretty important and helpful. However, they serve as guests who turn up for Part 3 if you complete their paralogues in Part 1. We’re talking About Anatolia, Bertrand, Orchel, and Talimun here. They do only appear in a “guest” capacity though, so my best recommendation here is to just ensure you play their signature side quests so they turn up as additional allies at the end.

Now, as for other folks I recommend and consider to be among the best and most useful Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave character’s, here is a list of who I think you should check out and why.

  • Anatolia – While I’m not a huge fan of her Personal Ability and some of her other signature skills are just okay, she gains some truly fantastic and unique Attack Magic. That means if you need a mage on a map, she can be one of the best characters to bring along in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. Some of her Attack Magic spells are Earth’s Jaws, Fire, Bolganone, Thunder, Glass Wheel, and Sword of Judgment.
  • Dante – If Dante isn’t in your army, you’re doing something wrong. She gets the Stage Directions personal ability that gives dodge +10 to all allies within two spaces of her based on their Charm stat. Even better, her Dramatic Effect ability (that will get a + form) gives allies +10 Crit and +10 Hit if Stage Directions takes effect. She’ll also pick up spells like Cutting Gale, Heal, Nosferatu, Recover, Thunder, and Wind.
  • Esmerelda – She possesses the unique Heroe’s Relic spear Grasitha, which is a great thrown weapon, and you basically gotta give her Sinza’s Trident. Her Brawn personal strength reduces equipment weight (Wt) to 80%, which is also helpful for speed. She also has Throwing Arm, which increases her attack and hit during combat if she’s using a spear like Grasitha or Sinza’s Trident.
  • Fabio – While he may be a big creep, he does automatically learn the spells Death, Luna, Miasma, and Mire, which most need scrolls to get. His Dark Calling reduces adjacent foes’ dodge. He also will pick up White Magic like Heal and Nosferatu along the way.
  • Halvia She’s an archer who gets stronger the more times she attacks in a fight. Her Adaptability grants her +2 Hit (up to +30) after each combat instance until the end of that map, and Crescendo builds on that by adding an additional +3 Hit every time she defeats a foe (up to +30). She won’t miss.
  • Mu – Mu can do anything and could become the best at any class you give her in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, as she is like this generation’s Villager character. This is thanks to her Signs of Growth Personal Ability. This gives her enhanced basic stat growth whenever she levels up. Her Warrior’s Blood will also further give an increase based on her equipped weapon type. I also made her a mage, and she ended up learning the Attack Magic Nosferatu, Fire, and Wind and the Assist Magic Heal and Regenera.
  • NinaeIf there was ever a character born to be a flying unit, it’s her. Her Spirits’ Voices gives her +10 Avo and Hit if the enemy uses magic and Spirits’ Guidance gives that ability to every one of her allies within two spaces. She’s great as a cavalry unit, which she starts out as, but give her a lance or spear and send her out with a group to deal with all mages.
  • Olympia – She needs to be one of your White Mages. This is your medic right here. Get her on a horse in a Troubadour style role. Her Competitive Zeal gives her +10 Crit if she’s using magic to attack. You can make her a black magic-focused unit, but her Ardent Nosferatu (which can get a + form) will increase its attack and Crit rate, so it’s better to make sure she’s prioritizing that. The spells I ended up getting with her are Heal, Physic, Energis, Nosferatu, Blizzard, and Thunder.
  • Orchel – Another amazing healer! Her Solid and Sturdy Personal Ability isn’t as helpful since it bars her from mounted classes in exchange for five Defense. But her Harmonic Soul restores some of her HP whenever she heals someone else and her Self-Repair restores her health when you use Overblaze. Some of her magic spells include Heal, Recover, Physic, Starlight, Fire, and Seraphim.
  • Simon – So, Simon may not turn out as good for you as he did for me, but I found he was one of the best Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave characters when it came to survivability. This is because his Close Call ability gives him a chance of surviving attacks that would kill him with 1 HP, so long as he had at least 2 HP. This is tied to his Luck stat, which determines the % chance of it triggering. However, his Devil’s Luck Ability also increases that stat by +2 for the rest of the map (up to 10 with the + form). So if he has Luck at 30 and defeats five enemies on a map, it’s a 40% chance he won’t die in a tricky situation!
  • Sirocco – His Goddess’ Favor passive restores 5 HP which turn, which helps a lot in each part of the story. He also learns Cutting Gale, Thunder, and Wind attack magic and Heal and Restore assist magic, which are great. I gave him the Lakshashi’s Iron Fan, which helped him a bunch too. His Wind’s Caprice will also give him Avo +1, +5, +20, or +30 randomly.
  • Tialla – While I do prefer Olympia as a healer, Tialla is also one of the best Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave support characters. Her Tactician’s Wit gives her +1 range for supportive Combat Arts like Lend Strength. Tactician’s Insight (also + possible) inflicts a -10 Avo on a foe for their next fight after she attacks them. Her spells in my run were Fire, Bolganone, Wind, Heal, Recover, and Physic.
  • Ursula – Ursula is SO GOOD for supply runs! Her Management Skills Personal Ability lets her and people within two spaces of her to access your Storage. Her Seize the Chance is also handy for increasing her damage by 1.5 based on a Luck-related percentage trigger. She also makes for a pretty good archer.
