Why Am I Walking Slow in Starfield?

In Starfield, you can be in the middle of exploring a planet when, suddenly, your character starts walking slowly. The traveling mechanic prevents your protagonist from being able to run or jog. What is causing it? Well, here is why you are walking slow in Starfield.

Why is my character walking slow in Starfield?

In Starfield, you will start walking slowly on PC if you accidentally press the Caps Lock button on your keyboard. Those who mistakenly click the button are unintentionally disabling the game’s auto-run mechanic. So essentially, it’s locking your character into a slow walk, which is used for Starfield Skills such as Pickpocketing and Sneak.

To fix your character walking slow in Starfield, all you need to do is press the Caps Lock button on your keyboard again. Doing this will immediately release the lock and will allow your character to move at their regular speed. Pretty easy, right?

How do I fix walking slowly due to being overencumbered?

While not the same issue, Starfield can also force you to walk slowly if you become overencumbered. This means that you are carrying too much and have surpassed your inventory’s current item limit. Although you can technically still sprint, you will start to take CO2 damage until you solve the issue.

To fix being overencumbered in Starfield, you need to store your items in your ship’s cargo space or ask your companions to hold your extra belongings. You can also invest in the Starfield Skill Weight Lifting, which permanently increases your carry weight limit. Once you are below your inventory limit, you will immediately be able to run again without taking damage.

Most players on Xbox will not run into the slow walk issue on Starfield, as it is specifically tied to a keyboard option. Thankfully, it’s a pretty quick fix once you know what is causing it! If you find your character walking slowly, just make sure to check that you haven’t accidentally clicked Caps Lock or become overencumbered.

Starfield is now available on the Xbox Series X and PC.
