Armed Fantasia, the spiritual successor to Wild Arms, may be dead in the water. Digital Bros, the parent company of the publisher 505 Games, announced that it cancelled Armed Fantasia in the financial results for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
As a reminder, Armed Fantasia was a crowdfunded project on Kickstarter. Interested parties could fund it, as well as Penny Blood, the spiritual successor to the Shadow Hearts series, back in 2022. The campaign raised over 379 million JPY. At the time, this converted to $2.6 million USD against a goal of $690,000 USD.
The website has not been updated since March 2026. In that March update, the team announced that it completed the Vertical Slice ROM, which includes the main scenario, core gameplay systems, and integrated elements. As an aside, I personally backed Penny Blood and so received updates on Armed Fantasia’s development in emails, but I have received no news about this either as of time of writing.
It’s unclear what went on behind the scenes between Digital Bros and Wild Bunch Production. Like in the case between Sony and Microsoft regarding Hideo Kojima’s upcoming game, Physint, there is the chance that players and backers will still see Armed Fantasia if another company picks up the publishing rights.
Armed Fantasia was in development for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. There is no news yet regarding the fate of the other game in the Kickstarter, Penny Blood.
