Wipeout 2048 isn’t far from release in Japan. Famitsu magazine says the game will be released on January 19th for 4,980 yen. A download version of the game will be made available at 3,900 yen.

Tracks in Wipeout 2048 will be wider than those of the previous games, in order to make it a little more accessible to newer players. Tracks are also designed with the game’s world in mind.

Since 2048 is the earlier Wipeout game chronologically, cities are halfway between present-day and futuristic. The higher up you go, the more of the futuristic architecture you’ll see. The game is also compatible with Wipeout HD Fury on the PlayStation 3 for cross-platform multiplayer.
