Shenmue III director Yu Suzuki recently held two interviews, talking about whether Shenmue IV might be a possibility, and the feel of the combat system. [Thanks, Resetera]

According to Suzuki, Shenmue III will end with an open ending for a sequel, as it is not possible to finish the story he has in mind with just this third episode, without compressing too much. He also said that he cannot talk about any possibility of a Shenmue I and Shenmue II HD remaster.

On the topic of battle systems, in the other interview, Suzuki said that there will be books to find where Ryo can learn new techniques. The game will have real time battles, but with less of a focus on precise timing like a fighting game. There is also a cinematic aspect to the battles.

Finally, Suzuki signed off by saying he’ll try his best to make the 2018 release date.

Shenmue III releases in the second half of 2018 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
