Mages has revealed that it will include the retro PC version of Steins;Gate as an early physical edition bonus for Steins;Gate Re:Boot in Japan. The retro game is known as Steins;Gate: Hen’i Kuukan no Octet, which could also be translated to Octet of the Mutating Space.
This retro 8-bit PC version of Steins;Gate is not newly developed. It originally came out for Windows PCs in 2011. The Japanese retro-styled game has the player input English words like “talk” to execute a command. It also offers multiple settings that take inspiration from the 1980s era PCs, which range from a green-only monitor with katakana text only and no audio, to 8-bit digital RGB with kanji text support and FM-PSG sound sources.
Although Steins;Gate Re:Boot is also slated for release worldwide, the Western English release is still not confirmed to get this bonus. Spike Chunsoft so far only offers a SteelBook edition that also comes with a 4.5″ illustration sticker.
Steins;Gate: Octet of the Mutating Space will be available as a physical first-print edition bonus for Steins;Gate Re:Boot, which Mages will release in Japan for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 on August 20, 2026. The reboot will also be available in English with additional digital releases on Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam on October 29, 2026.
