Following an indefinite delay and Bandai Namco stepping down as a publisher, Fate/Extra Record is now an Aniplex game. There’s also movement on possible progress, as the company launched a new website and social media account that will be updated in the coming weeks and months. This also comes as Director Kazuya Niino left Type-Moon Studio BB and left the remake project, citing his health. [Thanks, Gematsu!]
Because of this shift, the existing Fate/Extra Record site and social media will shut down due to Aniplex appearing as the new publisher and distributor for the game. Past posts on the account are wiped and the pages are inaccessible. Notices on both now state those will close on September 7, 2026 as part of the transition. Said changes will also affect the development team, with more news on that on the way. The new site and social media account didn’t offer any updated details yet.
We haven’t heard too many updates regarding the Fate/Extra Record remake in the last few years. Type-Moon first announced it back in July 2020 and confirmed it’s an update of the original Fate/Extra. We saw some gameplay footage and trailers in 2020 and 2021. During FGO Fes 2024, it got a 2025 release window. However, it was later delayed until “Spring 2026,” then delayed indefinitely.
Fate/Extra Record is in development at Aniplex and the game is expected to appear on the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC. The original Fate/Extra did appear worldwide on the PSP.
