Katsuhiro Harada Says a Xenosaga HD Collection ‘Failed in a Profitable Market Analysis’

It is looking like a Xenosaga HD Collection could prove to be a difficult task. When a fan asked Bandai Namco’s Katsuhiro Harada about the possibility of the series resurfacing, he said that it had already been considered for a remaster, but concerns about profitability halted the process.

Here is the conversation that revealed that talks about a possible Xenosaga remaster “failed in a profitable market analysis.”

When people asked further about the project, Harada expressed his sadness about the possible Xenosaga HD Collection failing. He even noted that he had been talking to Monolith Soft. When another fan asked if Europe was considered in the analysis, due to the first and third games never being released in the region, Harada replied, “We always analyze the global market.”

There were three main Xenosaga entries. Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht, Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Bose, and Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra all appeared on the PlayStation 2 in North America and Japan. Europe only received the second entry in the series. In addition, Xenosaga I + II appeared on the Nintendo DS in Japan.

Two Xenosaga spin-offs also exist. Xenosaga Freaks is a supplemental fan-disc for the PlayStation 2 in Japan that has a visual novel, a dictionary, and a Xenosaga II demo. There was also a three-episode mobile game in Japan called Xenosaga: Pied Piper, which acted as a prequel following Ziggy before the events of the game.

The most recent Xenosaga references in a game came in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Both KOS-MOS and T-ELOS\ appeared as Blades in it.

Harada is always rather forthright and open with fans on Twitter. For example, earlier this month he asked if people still wanted Tekken x Street Fighter.
