The Nintendo Switch has been a hot commodity as of late. While it has generally been performing well, with the last count as of January 2020 noting 52.48 million systems have been sold worldwide, its been especially difficult to find during the pandemic. But now, a Nintendo representative for the United States has confirmed that the shortage is being addressed and the company is working on getting the Nintendo Switch in stock in stores in the country. The statement regarding the system’s supply issues was given to GamesIndustry.biz. The outlet said an unnamed Nintendo Representative noted, “Nintendo Switch hardware is selling out at various retail locations in the U.S., but more systems are on the way. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
With the pandemic influencing things like production overseas and demand for the system, early suggestions from February 2020 predicted a shortage. On April 7, 2020, Nintendo even said no systems outside of preordered or already ordered ones would be shipped in Japan.
As for finding systems, people have been turning to other methods to keep track of when a store gets the Nintendo Switch in stock. Brickseek allows people to track deals and inventories. The Nintendo Switch subreddit has also been alerting people to restocks at stores like Best Buy.
