8 months after its release, Ring Fit Adventure, Nintendo’s fitness RPG, has sold 1 million units in Japan, according to a Famitsu report.

Ring Fit Adventure was released in October 2019 and has gone on to become extremely popular globally, owing to the fact that it allows the user to exercise indoors. The game would likely have hit the 1 million mark sooner in Japan, had it not been for ongoing global shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ring Fit Adventure is the second brand new I.P. by Nintendo to have crossed the 1 million mark in Japan since 2015’s Splatoon, which sold over 1.5 million units on the Wii U. While that doesn’t sound like a lot, it’s an extremely respectable figure for the Japanese market, where even the most popular games generally top out at 3-4 million units in retail sales. (Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter being two examples)

Ring Fit Adventure is still seeing global shortages, with Japanese stores regularly holding lottery sales for the game. When the U.K. received fresh stock earlier in the month, the game saw a 1160% surge in sales week-on-week. It’s also been growing in popularity in China, where it isn’t even officially available yet.

Globally, Ring Fit Adventure had sold over 2.73 million units as of December 31st, 2019.
