The Metal Max series takes place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, where machines created by the supercomputer NOA pose a major threat to humanity. Players can choose to travel on foot or use tanks to traverse the wasteland and battle enemies. The game also features a modification system that allows players to upgrade their tanks using scavenged parts.

Metal Max Xeno: Reborn is a remastered version of Metal Max Xeno, originally released in 2018. Reborn added visual enhancements as well as tweaks to the game’s combat and mechanics. It also added Pochi, a cute shiba inu dog that can help out in battles. The remaster was released in Japan in September 2020 for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, but it was not available outside of the country.

This announcement comes alongside the 30th anniversary of the franchise, recently celebrated with a live-stream hosted by Kadokawa. In it, the company revealed information about the upcoming sequel to Metal Max Xeno: Reborn, titled Metal Max Wild West. Additionally, it revealed that a new Saga game titled Metal Saga: Hangyaku No Rouka is currently in development with plans to ship worldwide.
