During the Ko Shibusawa 40th Anniversary Program, Koei Tecmo announced the development of a new title. Team Ninja will develop a new action game based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Team Ninja developed several notable action titles under Koei Tecmo. These include both the Ninja Gaiden and Nioh series. In February 2020, Koei Tecmo announced that sales for Nioh surpassed 3 million shipments worldwide. Since its initial release, the title also appeared on the PC and PS5. For a brief period of time, Nioh: The Complete Edition was made available to obtain entirely for free through the Epic Games Store. The series has sold over 6 million copies worldwide.
Additionally, Team Ninja is currently developing Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin in collaboration with Square Enix. This is a new spin on the series, which features more action oriented combat. Previously, two demos were available for a limited time. This allowed for players to explore two locales that will appear in the game. Prominent characters from the original release of the first Final Fantasy game will appear in the title. This includes Garland and Princess Sarah.
