While details about the collaboration between Atelier Sophie 2 and Tales of Arise were scarce, there was more to say about the game itself. Koei Tecmo uploaded a new trailer promoting the game and some of its new features.

Announced at the 2021 Tokyo Game Show, Atelier Sophie 2 is the sequel to 2015’s Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book. It’s also related to 2016’s Atelier Firis and 2017’s Atelier Lydie & Suelle. Its protagonist Sophie Neuenmuller appeared in all of the subseries titles. The trailer shows Sophie being carried off to another world after being pulled through a mysterious portal with her friend Plachta. She awakes in Erde Wiege, the Land of Dreams. Separated from the Plachta she knows, Sophie must make new friends and solve the mystery behind the unusual world she’s found herself in.

The trailer also highlighted some new systems present in Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream. One such system is the ability to control the weather in the world. Another, Panel Synthesis, adds new mechanics to the alchemy gameplay of the series. Major Gathering Spots will also allow Sophie to collect large amounts of otherwise rare materials to use.

Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream will release for PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch on February 25, 2022. Digital and physical purchases of the game will include a free downloadable costume for Sophie based on the outfit of Atelier Ryza protagonist Reisalin Stout. Having save data from other Atelier titles (mainly the other Mysterious series and Ryza 2) will unlock more costumes for Sophie.
