HBO revealed a January 15, 2023 premier date for the HBO TV series adaptation of The Last of Us. Naughty Dog shared this news via its official Twitter account, along with a poster of the show. The poster depicts Joel and Ellie in the post-apocalyptic remains of the city. There is some fungus-like imagery at the bottom of the poster.

HBO started filming the show in July 2021, and shared some new footage of the development in August 2022. Craig Mazin, who worked on Chernobyl, is the executive producer and writer, along with Neil Druckmann. Druckmann wrote for the game version of The Last of Us and Uncharted. As for people who are actually on the screen, Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) star as Joel and Ellie.
The Last of Us originally came out in 2013 for the PlayStation 3. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic America, after a mutated Cordyceps fungus turns a large portion of the population into zombie-like cannibalistic creatures. Protagonist Joel is a smuggler who has to take Ellie outside of the quarantine zone. He finds out on the journey that Ellie is immune to the fungus, and may hold the secret to a cure. The game was a success, and the remade version came out in September 2022.
The Last of Us will appear on HBO from January 15, 2023. The Last of Us Part I is readily available for the PlayStation 5, with a Windows PC version in development.
