How to Change Your Appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3

Larian Studios officially added an item through the 3.0 Baldur’s Gate 3 patch that will allow players to change their appearance. While there are some restrictions, using the Magic Mirror will allow you to customize certain aspects of your character if you’re looking to swap out hairstyles or even change your pronouns. This guide breaks down how you can change your appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3, and where to find the item that will allow you to do so.

In order to change your appearance, you will need to go to camp. If you aren’t quite sure how to access your camp, it’s a fairly simple process if you have supplies. Once you have made it to camp, you will then need to locate the Magic Mirror. This unique item can be used as many times as you’d like, but keep in mind that it is not always in the same place depending on what area you’re camping in. Which means you will need to scout out it’s general location.

What can you change when using the Magic Mirror in Baldur’s Gate 3:

Here’s the full list of items that can be customized once you head to camp:

  • General Appearance
  • Gender
  • Pronouns
  • Voice

Unfortunately, you cannot change your Origin or your race (or subrace) when using the Magic Mirror. This means that the Magic Mirror in Baldur’s Gate 3 only affects the more cosmetic elements of your character. Additionally, you cannot change your body-type, but you will be able to change your genitals.

That said, players can change their Class at any point in the game. So long as you have Withers at your camp, you can pick and choose whatever Class you’d like, so long as you’re willing to pay the price. Which isn’t all that bad. You can also use Withers to manage companions.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for the PlayStation 5 and PC. It will appear on Xbox consoles sometime in 2023.
