In Unicorn Overlord, there is a Rite of the Covenant involving the Ring of the Maiden and Alain’s possible marriage. However, this isn’t available right away, and it could take getting through over halfway through the game to unlock.
How do I get the Ring of the Maiden in Unicorn Overlord?
Basically, you need to complete the main quests in Elheim to get the item. Eltolinde and Rosalinde will give Alain the ring after the Main quest “The Witch’s Word.” Depending on whether you went to Drakenhold or Elheim first and how many side quests you are taking on, this could come up 20-30 hours into the game.
Once you get it, an overworld conversation involving Alain, Scarlett, and Alex will trigger. Scarlett will remind them of the altar in the beginning of the game on the island of Palevia. It’s right outside of town and is where early story segments occurred. Fast travel to either Palevia Town or Palevia Cathedral. The location will be marked by an exclamation point on the map.
Going there will trigger a conversation with Rosalinde, which confirms that is the altar they are looking for. She’ll say you need to go there with someone and offer the ring. If they accept, the Rite of the Covenant will occur. You’ll also find the Main Quest “Unicorn and Maiden” in your quest list.
How do I use the Ring of the Maiden (and arrange Alain’s marriage) in Unicorn Overlord?
You can’t actually use the Ring of the Maiden to perform the Rite of the Covenant in Unicorn Overlord until you max out Alain’s Rapport with someone. If you try to visit the altar before that, Rosalinde will appear on the Overworld and tell you that you aren’t lose enough to anyone to use it.
Since Rapport conversations are tied to both building up the relationship via battles, gifts, and meals and liberating territories where these talks can happen, it could take a while.
However, speaking of Rosalinde, she is one of the first characters you can max out Alain’s relationship with, due to all of her Rapport conversations happening in Elheim.
If someone is at the correct Rapport level, visiting the altar outside Palevia Town will allow you to select them from a menu. You then can witness a scene with that person and choose to give them the ring. However, the game does give you a last chance to back out before that conversation happens. Depending on the person selected, you’ll get a scene that may or may not be romantic and imply marriage in Unicorn Overlord.
Finishing this moment gets you Ring of the Unicorn, Ring of the Maiden, and 10 Honors as “Unicorn and Maiden” is complete. The rings obtain their “true power.” Ring of the Unicorn gives base AP plus one and adds five points to all stats, while Ring of the Maiden gives base PP plus one and also adds five points to all stats. Only Alain can equip Ring of the Unicorn, while only his partner can use Ring of the Maiden.
