Mario Kart 7 Boosts Over 450k During First Week In Japan

Famitsu magazine publisher, Enterbrain, have an early report on one of last week’s major Japan releases: Mario Kart 7, released on December 1st. Enterbrain say that in its first week, Mario Kart 7 sold 451,932 copies in Japan.

It also gave Nintendo 3DS system sales a large boost. The 3DS sold 216,350 units during the same week. We’ll have more detailed numbers from Media-Create as per usual on Wednesday (note that they will likely differ slightly from Enterbrain’s).

Next week, we’ll get to find out if Monster Hunter 3G’s release helped sustain 3DS sales, and in the weeks after that, the combination of the holidays and the PlayStation Vita’s release should make for some interesting sales columns.
