Sanrio revealed that Takara Tomy has released new Punirunes featuring the former’s popular mascot characters like Hello Kitty and Pompompurin. This virtual pet toy has a gimmick that lets the owner insert a finger to literally touch the pet mascot they are raising.
The owner will be able to insert three AAA alkaline batteries to power up this toy. The virtual pet will gradually grow from a baby to a kid, and eventually a grown-up adult modeled after a Sanrio mascot. They will then be able to provide various things to the pet, such as food, bath, and accessories.
The Sanrio Punirunes will have a total of 23 grown-up mascot characters available in-game. The roster ranges from the mainstay mascot Hello Kitty to the 2025 Sanrio Character Ranking winner Pompompurin and the former streak winner Cinnamoroll.

The new Punirunes have an MSRP of 7,150 yen (~$48.50). Takara Tomy has been selling the product firsthand via its own Takara Tomy Mall website since August 2, 2025. However, it strictly limits shipments of the items to Japan only, and the company does not even make it available for overseas shipping via the Buyee widget. A listing page for the same product is also available on Amazon Japan, but there are only second-hand retailers selling at increased prices as of Sanrio’s announcement. Sanrio is planning to put the Punirunes up for orders in its own physical and online storefronts in August 2025 or later.
The Sanrio Punirunes are being made available for purchase gradually in physical and online storefronts across Japan.
